St. Albert soccer updates

Division 1A women

The St. Albert Impact 4 women’s team can solidify its second-place standing in the division 1A table with a pair of wins during a three-day span in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

With four matches remaining in the regular season, the 2018 Tier I provincial champions play the ASC Fury/KC Trojans (4-3-4) today at 2 p.m. at Goldstick Park and Monday’s kickoff is 7 p.m. against the third-place Spruce Grove Saints (7-3-1) at Riel Park.

The Wind (12-1) is the division leader and against the Impact (8-3-1) the teams split the season series by scores of 4-3 for the Wind in May and 4-2 for the Impact last month.

The last match for the Impact was the 4-1 loss to the fourth-place Sherwood Park Phoenix Reserves 2 (6-4-3) July 6 at Strathcona Athletic Park.

In the division scoring race, Brittany Kindzierski and Shyanne Walton rank second and third with 13 and 12 goals, respectively.

Rangers unbeaten

The St. Albert Rangers marched into Friday’s match unbeaten in nine as winners of seven in a row in the masters 35-plus division 1B men’s league.

The score between the Rangers (7-0-2) and Barrabases FC (2-3-3) was unavailable at press time.

The latest win was 6-1 against Sahara SC (4-2-3) Sunday at ESA Complex.

The Rangers were led by Alan Smith’s hat trick, a pair by Steve Vickers and a rocket from Oscar Sanchez.

Smith is the division’s top scorer with 18 goals and Kevin O’Kell is third with 10.

The next Edmonton District Soccer Association match is Aug. 9 against Sahara at 7 p.m. at Kinsmen Park.

Premier women

The season is winding down for the three St. Albert Impact premier women’s teams with the provincial playdowns out of reach in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

Sunday’s doubleheader at Riel Park features Impact 1 (7-7) versus Futbol United (10-0-2) at 11 a.m. and at 1 p.m. it’s Impact 2 (6-4-4) against Impact 3 (6-7-2).

Two premier matches are scheduled for Riel Park on Tuesday, with Impact 2 against Futbol United at 6:30 p.m. and Impact 3 against 2018 provincial champion Northwest United 2 (15-0-1) at 8:15 p.m.

Impact 1 also plays Sherwood Park Phoenix 1 (8-3-4) Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. at Strathcona Athletic Park.

All three Impact reams were in action this week with positive results for Impact 1 and 3 while Impact 2 lost 3-0 to Northwest United at Riel Park

In a very open contest, Impact 1 outscored Angels Scottish SC 2 (6-7-3) 7-6 at ESA Complex as Casey Paplawaski produced three goals, Danica Blasius potted two and Taylor Payne and Cailyn Newman added singles for the 2018 provincial silver medallists and second-place premier finishers.

Paplawski’s nine goals are third in premier scoring behind Impact 1 teammate Brittany Kindzierski’s 10 and Raeghan McCarthy’s 11 for Northwest United.

Impact 3 goalkeeper Michelle Brodeau was the star of the show in the 3-1 decision against Victoria 2 (5-8-3) at Riel Park.

Mia Simon, Ahlam Abubaker and Kate Searle provided the offence.
