Golden Birdie Cup

The second annual Golden Birdie Cup between the Paul Kane Blues and Bellerose Bulldogs was another example of the strong ties between the two St. Albert Public high school athletic departments.

The wrap-up tournament provided the student athletes an opportunity to play in multiple events and this year’s winner was Paul Kane by a score of 3-2 after Bellerose was awarded the Golden Birdie Cup last year.

The following four awards were also handed out by both teams:

Taking Flight (best newcomer): Jarryd Oosthuis of Paul Kane and Alya Chin of Bellerose.

Angry Bird (gritty match wins): Kayle Mak of Paul Kane and Anissa Halbert of Bellerose.

Golden Crispy Bird (significant contributions that may not have been recognized): Taylor Good of Paul Kane and Declan Fawcett of Bellerose.

Greasy Bird (best individual shot of the year): Harlan Syme of Paul Kane and Derian Ward of Bellerose.

Paul Kane and Bellerose competed in the division two west league in metro Edmonton badminton and the Blues finished 3-4 as quarter-finalists while the Bulldogs were 2-4.
