Cardinals at home

The St. Albert Cardinals are up to bat this weekend in the U18 AAA Norwest league season opener at Legion Memorial Park.

The 2018 Baseball Alberta Tier I champions and fourth place finishers at nationals are in action Saturday against Calgary Dinos Yellow at 12 noon and Sunday against the Northern Lights at 10 a.m. and East Central Bulls at 4 p.m.

The Cardinals also host the Edmonton Padres next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

At nationals in Fort McMurray, four straight wins in five games lifted the Cardinals into the medal round but losses of 1-0 to the London (Ont. 1) Badgers and 11- 1 to Quebec ended the tournament.

London (5-1) repeated as national champions by defeating the Etobicoke (Ont. 2) Rangers 5-4 in the final.

The home openers at Akinsdale Arena are next Wednesday for the Tier II Crude against the Edmonton Warriors at 9 p.m. and May 4 for the Tier I Crude against Okotoks Marauders at 6:30 p.m.
