In this very busy world of working around the clock, we all need services that make our lives easier. One of those services is the A+ BBB rated (and highly rated on Google and Yelp) company: Sturgeon Professional Drycleaners.
Abdallah and Almas Jiwa purchased the business in November of 1993. From day one their commitment was to provide a one-stop shop for each client’s dry cleaning needs. What followed from the day of the purchase and for the next 25 years was hard work, long hours (including weekends) and the systematic upgrades of equipment and products to ensure the best, safest, and most eco-friendly cleaning service. The pace was, and is, intensive, but Abdallah and Almas take pride in knowing each customer approaches them with confidence and walks away completely satisfied.
“We are very accommodating and always provide for the customer’s needs,” says Abdallah. “The shop is friendly. We treat customers with respect and promptly address any concerns. I have never told a customer when their order would be ready. I always ask, ‘when do you need it?’ Even if they drop off their dry cleaning in the morning and need it ready by 5:00 pm, we accommodate them. We work with honesty and take pride in what we do.”
In 2014, not only was Sturgeon Professional Drycleaners the first company of its kind in the Edmonton area to install specialty machines that are safer for garments while also being very eco-friendly, Abdallah and Almas were awarded a certificate of excellence in customer service from the St. Albert Chamber of Commerce.
“I would never give anything back to the customer that I would not wear myself,” states Abdallah. “That means, it is returned properly pressed and with no damage or stains. We do the dry cleaning in such a way that the garments are protected and can have longer use.”
Being a one-stop dry cleaning location means going above and beyond for the customers, and that is why Sturgeon Professional Drycleaners also provides: alternations and tailoring, pick up and delivery of dry cleaning and laundry services, along with cleaning of wedding gowns, formal wear, suede, leather, and area rugs.
The business is family owned and operated. Each client is an extension of their natural family. Abdallah’s father’s 100th birthday coincides with the company’s 25th anniversary in November. The family will celebrate the birthday milestone with friends and family from all over North America and Europe.
As the company celebrates 25 years in business, the owners happily reflect on their time in the community, and the many customers they have enjoyed working with over the decades.
“We like to acknowledge our customers that have supported us for years. We are honored and grateful and we appreciate the support they have given us,” say Abdallah and Almas. “As for the loyal customers who have passed on, we like to pray that may God rest their souls in eternal peace.”
A quarter of a century is a long time for any business, but for the hardworking couple, it’s just the start of how they give back to anyone who needs expert or specialty dry cleaning. The shop is open for extended hours to accommodate busy customer’s schedules, and the owners are always on hand with friendly service, a joke or two, and desire to make each client look the best they can in their freshly cleaned and pressed clothing.
Where do they go from here?
“We will continue to provide the same high level of service with very reasonable prices,” concludes Abdallah.
