Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area (BGCBigs) is on a mission to ensure children and youth have enriching experiences that enable future success. A community-supported organization, BGCBigs, helps achieve this aim by providing youth and their families with safe places, positive role models, and a variety of beneficial programs and services. Over the years BGCBigs has helped thousands of children & youth with serving 4,800 in the past year alone, reducing those children’s likelihoods of turning to substance abuse, dropping out of school, and making other poor life choices. The impact of BGCBigs has lasting effects for generations.
As a community-supported organization, fundraising is an integral part of keeping BGCBigs’ programs and services going. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Dream Home Lottery is the organization’s iconic and best-known fundraiser – and this year the dream house has a few new surprises.
Gloria Lawrence, Dream Home Coordinator for Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area, explains, “The grand prize is a house and $100,000 cash. The great thing about this home is how it is geared for high energy efficiency. It includes solar panels, an electric car charger, and all the appliances are certified HE. There are added bonuses too in this three bedroom open concept bungalow, including a dog wash in the garage and an enchanting play space for children under the basement stairs. And yes, the basement is fully finished.”
The main floor’s 1,835 square feet of developed space includes an open concept kitchen, dining, and great room area. The great room moves seamlessly to a three-season room with deck access. Just off the great room is the oversized master bedroom with its spa-inspired ensuite and walk in closet. Space and organization are seen throughout, including in the walk-in pantry, dedicated mud room, and den (which could easily be a home office or library).
The magic continues downstairs. The foundation level contains two bedrooms, a full and half bathroom, and an incredible entertaining setup with a bar and wine display. Forget about shoving your elliptical trainer and weights into the media or utility room – there is a separate space for a gym or yoga studio. This fully developed level boasts even more storage and a fully equipped laundry room.
