Canadian spirit comes alive in times of need

Bless all of you who have shaken out your “rainy day” jars or given up a Starbucks lattĂ© to send a few pesos to the Haitian relief efforts.

Maybe we need these not-so-subtle reminders periodically to realize and remember just how privileged we really are. Even the poorest of our poor would be aghast at the horrible pain and suffering that we are witnessing on an hourly basis from the comfort of our living rooms. Ours is a country whose military aircraft will be dispatched ASAP to bring us safely home if we are stranded abroad. This seems unfathomable to other nations who are unable, or sometimes unwilling, to provide even the most basic needs to their own citizens!

Despite what happens in Vancouver next month, Canadians have proven, yet again, to be “Olympic champions” in the Giving from the Heart relays! For every soul crying out for help in this disaster, every penny counts … so does every second! Go Canada!
