City needs to listen to seniors needs

Elizabeth Allchin makes a lot of sense as usual in her recent letter ( St. Albert Gazette , Your Views, Dec. 22) which urges council to listen and take notice of seniors needs.

During my last term on council, I received some important suggestions as to how our so-called “handi bus” should operate but my suggestions for additional stops such as the General Hospital fell on deaf ears.

I also managed to move the green garbage container collection up to April 1 to deal with the amount of spring cleanup that starts in April but my efforts to have this schedule reduced to a monthly service from Nov. 1 to March 31 were ignored – which, if this had been adopted, would save taxpayers some hard-earned money.

I've checked some crescents in my area of Grandin and find very few green compostable containers out during this period.

Now we have a council going ahead with a library which was turned down and an additional tax via a utility franchise fee that is a tax no matter how they try to dress it up.

Maybe I will celebrate my 90th birthday by running in the next civic election on a pro-seniors platform and ask Liz to stand as well as my running mate.

Bob Russell, St. Albert
