Cooper controversy shows importance of voting

In the June 5 issue of the Gazette , Ms. Henderson writes about action taken by Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer to rebuke St. Albert MP Michael Cooper for some of his comments and actions. Cooper apologized and Scheer considers the matter closed.

However, Scheer did not elect Cooper, St. Albertans did – and we ought to face up to that. Personally, I hope he runs again, just so I can vote against him. His actions insult his constituents. I do not support his party but I respect the decision taken by Scheer. It was the right thing to do.

Malcolm Parker says he does not “fully understand the events”. Take a deep breath, Mr. Parker, and the understanding will come.

I am pleased that Bob Russell has spoken up and I hope he finds someone as a candidate for his party.

These events should illustrate, if it is needed, the high importance of folks voting. I doubt that the turnout at the last election was impressive.
