Regarding Kathy Put’s opinion (St. Albert Gazette, June 8) of Michael Cooper’s actions. I can understand why Cooper spoke up. Suri, the witness, linked “conservative commentators” to violent right-wing extremists. I believe that hundreds of thousands – millions – of decent, responsible, tolerant Canadians ... lean right. It was unkind indeed for Suri to link us with them.
Cooper read a quote that was from the manifesto to show that Suri was wrong in his conclusions. The NZ shooter decried conservatism. Extremists exist amongst us and cannot be pinned down to one side or another ... they are just angry, nasty people!
Cooper is a passionate, engaged politician. He is guilty of being maybe a little too aggressive. But that is all, and he has apologized. This matter should be dropped.
