Federal plastics ban needs to be looked at carefully

The federal government's "ban on plastics" needs to be looked at carefully.

The direction of manufacturers and retailers taking more resposibility for recycling certainly can improve the percentage of plastics properly recycled. If Walmart charges me for a bag, I should be able to return the bag and get a credit towards my next purchase. And their trucks return almost empty to the dustribution center, so efficiency of collection would be greatly increased. And surely if someone develops a 'vacuuming nozzled collection machine' at the entrance to WM I know my grandkids will rejoice at the next opportunity to visit that store, and getting the print-out credit slip as well. And hey, they're learning!

My concern is this: there is cost associated with this, and like everything else, it will be passed on to customers. Not a problem, if Mayor Heron, and other mayors, reduce taxes by the $6.54. If, however, she looks at the $96,000.00 in municipal savings as hers, then we have effectively double dipped the taxpayer.

Listen carefully to the Prime Minister's announcement. The word "levy" is clear. Not even lost in "ummm".
