Government should stand up for veterans

Military/RCMP veterans wish the Conservative and Liberal members of Parliament who voted no to Bill C-201 an enjoyable Christmas dinner. They forgot: • That the veterans’ pension account was depleted by over $20 billion.

Military/RCMP veterans wish the Conservative and Liberal members of Parliament who voted no to Bill C-201 an enjoyable Christmas dinner.

They forgot:

• That the veterans’ pension account was depleted by over $20 billion. This would have been more than sufficient funds to pay for the termination of the benefit reduction program that affects military/RCMP pension at age 65.

• China, deemed to be the world’s richest country, has received $50 million in foreign aid from Canada.

• Canadian taxpayers have funded Russian Red Army veterans’ pensions. Prime Minister Stephen Harper ensured that he was available to take part in the Royal Assent for this bill! The Government of Canada has financially assisted the Polish, Americans and British veterans who have received Canadian citizenship papers.

• $20 million made available to refurbish Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens.

In fact, the Government of Canada has bailed out numerous industries but politicians can’t find the required funds to assist Canada’s military/RCMP veterans.

They also forgot that the pension claw-back is affecting our disabled veterans pension.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Conservative and Liberal parties would not permit a democratic vote. They allowed Bill C-201, the military/RCMP veterans bill, to be defeated at the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs on Nov. 17, 2009.

Shame! Shame! Shame! We shall remember them at the next ballot box!
