Kettle volunteers do a wonderful job

I was thoroughly upset at reading the letter entitled “Failure to say Merry Christmas shows a lack of respect,” regarding the Salvation Army ( St. Albert Gazette , Your Views, Dec. 26).

I have spent the last eight years “guarding” my kettle, north door Walmart, four volunteer hours a week.

All donors and anyone passing by gets a thank you and a Merry Christmas. Occasionally your children help by ringing the bells, usually with a huge smile.

What is collected here stays in the general area, not sent abroad.

The person who wrote the unkind letter should try volunteering, even an hour or so a week at Christmas, wear a Santa hat and wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
