Lacombe Lake dog park was there before residents

Once again, I’m astounded and amazed by how much attention city council pays to a few self-interest groups in St. Albert.

Once again, I’m astounded and amazed by how much attention city council pays to a few self-interest groups in St. Albert.

The latest is proposing that the city fund a barrier between the dozen or so homes that back onto the pre-existing Lacombe Lake dog park. Apparently, dogs are peeing and frolicking near these newly built homes.

It simply defies logic. Buying a house that backs onto a dog park only to complain about dog activity is very much like buying a house under a flight path and complaining about air traffic noise; buying a house on a busy commuter route and complaining about bus traffic; buying a house next to the train tracks and complaining about getting awoken by train whistles; or buying a house next to a school and complaining about children preventing you from enjoying your backyard.

Why is the city entertaining these complaints? You can’t have your cake and eat it, too. In many of the above circumstances, the property was purchased at a discount due to the pre-existing condition.

The fact that four of seven (57 per cent) councillors voted to support these significant few, who clearly can’t see anything outside their own four walls (except presumably dogs peeing on their fence), tells me that once again the squeaky wheel is getting the grease.

What’s next? The city assisting Santa Claus in opening a GoFundMe account so he can bring in some big heaters to melt the snow, so he can build a putting green behind his workshop?
