One lucky cat ...

letter-sta

Further to the Dec. 21 article, "Cat hitches ride under car":

After working a volunteer shift at the St. Albert Seniors Association on Tache Street in St. Albert, I got into my car and drove home to Lacombe Park. It was a bitterly cold day, around -20 C and 2 p.m. in the afternoon on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Oh my goodness, I had quite the surprise! Unbeknownst to me, a small tortoiseshell cat had hitched a ride! I pulled into my garage and heard a very loud meow. Apparently she had climbed onto the end of the exhaust system and was well and truly stuck. I was completely shocked and imagined an injured kitty.

Well, to cut a long story short, two hours, three peace officers and a tow truck later – she was freed. A little dirty but unharmed and I’m sure very terrified. She was immediately checked out by a vet and is currently at the Humane Society awaiting adoption. How sad that her owners have no idea as to what happened to their kitty – she should have been microchipped.

So, if you have lost your pet and she fits the description, please go get her at the Humane Society on 137 Avenue. I’d say she’s one very lucky cat. And I’m one very happy driver that no harm was done.

Lastly KUDOS to our wonderful peace officers and emergency resources. They help make our community a wonderful, safe place to call home. Please look after your pets, especially cats who wander around in cold weather.
