Parents need to teach kids rules of the road

Parents! Please, please teach your kids that they must stop, push the button, wait for cars to stop before entering the crosswalk!

I just lost about 10 years of my life – driving about 30 km/h in a residential area, near a school and close to dismissal time – two young girls on their scooters rode straight across a marked crosswalk with flashers! They never stopped or even slowed down to push the button. Both the car coming towards me and I were able to stop – on a dime! The girls did not even acknowledge the cars or the fact they were crossing a main road. Both of us, the drivers, sat there for a few moments, realizing we almost killed two sweet little girls.

If we had hit them, you know there would be a criminal investigation, we would have been charged and had to live with that accident in our minds every single day.

Then the city would reduce speed limits again, put up more traffic lights, etc, etc ...

All the kids needed to do was stop, push the button and wait for us to stop – we would have, you know.
