The provincial budget was still warm and our mayor did not wait a long time to announce project delays or tax increases. Our mayor chose the easy way to react to the cut in the provincial budget. She was really fast when she heard the name ”cut”, last year when the federal government decided to tax the part of the no-taxable wages/expenses, our council increased their compensation to cover the financial loss, it was insane. As residents of St. Albert for many years, we always have to deal with the increased taxes.

In the financial critical situation in Alberta where many residents lose their jobs, their house, and more and more using food bank to survive, it should be a normal gesture if the mayor, instead of increasing taxes, announced that council will review the city expenses to be able to cut these expenses by 2.4 per cent.

When we have a loss of revenue in our household, we review our expenses to evaluate where we can cut. Why is our mayor not able to do that?
