Recycling changes should come with lower fees

Re: The mayor’s letter to the editor regarding recycling (St. Albert Gazette, Your Views, Jan. 23).

Regarding comments such as “Sometimes I get a bit frustrated with the press” and “And finally, the sentence about the city leaders taking off their blinders angered me to no end,” you chose to be in the kitchen – if you can’t take the heat perhaps you should leave.

I have seen so many cases with council and mayor where the blinders seem to be permanently in place, the library, the water meters (cutting off water to seniors – how juvenile), yellow asparageese, giving themselves raises, and so on and so on.

Perhaps council and mayor should see how their actions frustrate and anger a lot of taxpayers in St. Albert.

Yes, we all care about recycling and the environment but ... when all of a sudden so many things are now exempted from the blue bag, perhaps council should reduce the amount they charge for recycling (yeah right, as if that will happen).

All levels of government these days seem to have the attitude that we work for them and they have the right to say and do whatever they choose – maybe to try to make themselves look great in the view of the world, country, province and city.

Instead of getting frustrated and angry when opinions are expressed (freedom of speech), one should look at how to make a situation better, realize we are one small city and have no control over a country like China and their recycling stipulations, but we do pay high recycling fees on our bills and this is the reaction we get from the mayor.

Blinders need to come off city council and they need to try to do a better job for those who pay their wages: us, the taxpayers.
