Residents shouldn't be shamed for fighting Habitat

When it comes to Habitat for Humanity, there is no doubt about its good work and excellent reputation. As a result, there is no shortage of volunteers and donations for this wonderful organization.

When it comes to Habitat for Humanity, there is no doubt about its good work and excellent reputation. As a result, there is no shortage of volunteers and donations for this wonderful organization.

However, when Habitat opts to stray from its roots and downgrade versus rejuvenate an area and build ‘down’ versus build ‘like,’ the media falls strangely silent and the people in the neighbourhood are left to shut up and like it or be treated like pariahs for having the gall to fight back.

Nobody believes that residents of Habitat are any better or worse than anyone else. What the problem is, and what everyone seems to be ignoring is the fact that this project is less than what the normal Habitat project should be. In our opinion, Habitat is partnering with a company that is slithering under its coattails to gain an air of respectability, but at the same time, they’re dragging Habitat’s name through the mud.

Before you tar and feather a group for fighting Habitat for Humanity, the least you could do is your homework.
