Servus Place problems can be solved locally

Re: Servus Place begins fitness centre study,’ Gazette, March 31:

This makes me wonder why we have to hire an outside source to do a study of the community’s need. $40,000 will be going out the window to give the city ‘an idea’ about how to keep up with the growth of memberships at Servus Credit Union Place when we already know it needs an expansion.

Isn’t anybody here capable of doing the study/survey that knows how our community thrives, who can take the sports facility and apply common sense in terms of what the need is to expand or renovate? I find it very insulting that tax dollars will be paid out so an outside source can tell us where the need is when we already know what we have to do to fix it, especially at times of such great economic need in our community.

Excuse me, $40,000 is $40,000 that could benefit any consulting firm here in the city. Let’s use our talents and skills first to invest in our economic growth in St. Albert. A $40,000 contract to a Vancouver-based consulting firm? Why not to an Alberta- or city-based firm? Come on, we have talent here, do we not? Perhaps hindsight is 20/20.

Another thought to ponder: let our youth use the Servus Place facility for free at any given time to keep healthy teens out of trouble during after-school hours or spring breaks. That would be a good thing for our community.
