Thankful for our health care workers

Like Valerie Spink’s letter recently in your newspaper, my family and I can only commend the people who make up the medical system here. On the evening of February 10 my wife suffered a cardiac arrest at our house.

Like Valerie Spink’s letter recently in your newspaper, my family and I can only commend the people who make up the medical system here. On the evening of Feb. 10, my wife suffered a cardiac arrest at our house. From the reassuring 911 operator on, I can only praise the total dedication, skill and determination of the first responders, the ICU staff at the Sturgeon Hospital, and finally cardiologist Dr. Williams and all the staff at the Cardiac Care Unit at the Royal Alex hospital for their amazing dedication to helping those hit with a health crisis.

At every stage of my wife’s recovery, these people displayed true professionalism and caring, explaining everything they were doing, the stages of treatment, prognosis and options.

My family are truly appreciative in a way that goes well beyond words over the miracle that occured, since only 12 per cent of those who suffer such an event make close to a full recovery.

Now, after two heart procedures, we have cardiac rehab at the Glenrose Hospital to go to, and another reason to be thankful again for our health care system and the people who dedicate their lives to serving the public.
