Too much debt, too little accountability

We live in a province that has been with little or no debt for a long time. My largest concern with what government has done to our province is the debt we have created in four years.

We started out with approximately $10 billion in debt four years ago. Four years later, we will be between $75 and $90 billion in debt. If we will only be at $75 billion, we will have grown $65 billion in four years. This is approximately $15,000 for every person in Alberta. A family of four will have acquired $60,000 in debt in four years.

I took a look at the U.S. federal debt recently which is at approximately $22 trillion. The U.S. started to go into debt in about 1790. This is approximately $66,000 for every person in the U.S. This has taken about 230 years to grow to this amount.

Our current government has been able to grow our debt in Alberta to 25 per cent of the U.S. debt per person in only four years. How can a government have that much power, to spend that much money and put us in so much debt per household without complete exposure where all the funds have been spent and without Albertans’ approval?

What do we have to show for $65 billion in spending? Where is the accountability? This is our debt, but we have very little accountability where our money has gone.

Keep up this debt pace and in four more years, each household of four will have a debt of $120,000.
