Why can’t clamshell containers be recycled?

Recently, there have been many changes to what can and cannot be recycled in our city. I have read the articles that explain why these changes were necessary and, for the most part, I understand.

I have read the articles that explain why these changes were necessary and, for the most part, I understand.

However, when it comes to the plastic clamshell-type containers that you get at the grocery store, I simply don’t understand. These should now be put in the garbage?

We have many different bays at the Campbell Park Recycling Depot, from bicycle tires to paint cans, etc. Surely there could be a bay for these clamshells?

We are teaching the importance of recycling in our schools, and I simply cannot justify to my children why I am throwing these plastic containers in the garbage.

Can we not add a bay for these at the recycling depot?
