Winning friends and influencing people

The Kamikaze Kid, Jason Kenney, says he will kill the carbon tax (only to be replaced by a federal pollution tax with rebates), get rid of the cap on oilsands emissions, grant a stay of execution to “clean” coal plants, and kill subsidies to renewable energy development in order to restore Alberta’s reputation as a climate change denier and pariah.

It will take more than a $10-million “war room,” a blockage of oil exports to B.C., (watch for retaliation against our beef, grain and other exports through B.C. and bankruptcies in the oilpatch), attacking the Suzuki Foundation, other environmentalists across the country and Aboriginals, the referendum on equalization (no support from Nova Scotia, P.E.I, New Brunswick and Manitoba on this one) and other gimmicks to win friends and influence other Canadians. No one will believe that Alberta really believes in man-made climate change and is a leader in clean energy.

Banging his shoe on a desk á la Khrushchev may make some Albertans cheer and believe him to be a great leader, but these actions will not get a pipeline to tidewater nor will it help Andrew Scheer become prime minister.
