Women's safety at stake in pro-life's blind stance

In respone to Robert Mollot’s ignorant beliefs on an essential practice: Anti abortion rallies have never and will never stop the “cruel” act of abortion.

In respone to Robert Mollot’s ignorant beliefs on an essential practice (Gazette, July 24): Anti-abortion rallies have never and will never stop the “cruel” act of abortion.

As of now, Catholic schooling’s sexual education programs offer abstinence focused education. Its message is outdated and evidently results in unwanted pregnancies. To expect young and credulous receivers of inadequate information to follow it without question is beyond naive. No matter how many indoctrinated youth you may take to rallies, to believe that they will not question or test what they have been taught is false.

No empathy is brought to the carriers of unwanted or unsafe pregnancies. The “pro-life” movement is more accurately titled “pro-fetus". Adoption centers and foster care should not be used as a catch-all for undesired children. Both systems are overworked and are not an ideal fix to this issue.

A child is not a punishment for sex and sex should not be used as a fear tactic. Abortion will always occur. The question now becomes: are you willing to accept a just practice or will you turn a blind eye when women are forced to resort to unsafe termination?
