Okotoks is participating in the CAPTURE program, a voluntary Alberta RCMP initiative that helps police quickly locate and access security camera photos or video to help with investigations.

OKOTOKS - Okotoks residents are invited to register security cameras with the RCMP to assist in crime prevention and investigations.

The Alberta RCMP CAPTURE program creates a database of cameras that police can access to gather evidence if they are investigating a crime, and the program has recently rolled out in Okotoks.

“The CAPTURE program adds another valuable layer to community safety in Okotoks, through community assisted policing with sharing recorded video evidence,” said RCMP Staff Sergeant Zane Semaniuk.

The free, voluntary program enables police to quickly locate security cameras that could help in an investigation.

“Hopefully it’s great for our community,” Semaniuk said.

Individuals who take part will be helping to protect property and helping to keep the community safe, the Town said.

Residents who choose to share recordings will be given a storage device they can use to extract data and provide it to police at their convenience.

Video or photos are shared voluntarily, and the database of registered properties is confidential and only accessible to RCMP. Anyone registered can leave the program at any time.

To register, residents can visit ruralalbertacapture.ca.

For more information, or to apply for program, contact the Alberta RCMP at 587-837-2289 or [email protected].
