BOWDEN - A King’s Bench jury trial for a man facing a first-degree murder charge following the death of a 25-year-old woman in Bowden in 2021 has been postponed, court officials said.
Ross Arran McInnes was scheduled to go to trial in Calgary starting on Feb.5 but his trial has been postponed pending a Feb. 9 court appearance to set a new date, according to Alberta Justice court check service, which did not provide a reason for the postponement.
Police responded to a residence in a Bowden apartment on March 22, 2021 where they found Kirsten (Gardner) O’Donoghue deceased. McInnes was arrested at the scene.
A pre-trial conference for McInnes was held in Calgary King’s Bench court last week. Jury selection was scheduled to take place on Feb. 1 but has also been postponed.
O’Donoghue was the mother of then two year-old twin boys, Braxton and Jensen.
A family member set up a GoFundMe page shortly after her passing with a goal of raising up to $60,000 to help cover the cost of raising the boys. Donations exceeded the goal.
The Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society has named its yet-to-be-built emergency shelter in Olds Kirsten's Place in tribute to the murdered woman.
