Best 18-Hole golf course

Ted Dancin’s Indoor Golf is golf like never before. With 90-plus virtual golf courses to choose from, the indoor golf venue offers a mecca of North American courses that extend from San Diego’s Torrey Pines and Palm Desert’s Big Horn Canyons to Utah’s Glen Wild Golf and Mexico’s Cabo del Sol flanking the Sea of Cortez.

During COVID, James Lawlor and three partners created a model whereby golfers can book any one of six private rooms decorated either with high-top tables or a sofa. Rooms are 4.5 metres by 7.5 metres long with a four-metre screen and turf.

High-end simulators allow golfers to track ball speed, side and back spin, launch angle, descent, and flight time, among other features. The simulators also provide pointers on club speed, the angle of attack, smash factors, and club force.

Cody Hancock, Sturgeon Valley Golf Club pro and Ted Dancin’s co-owner, also offers professional lessons. Advance bookings are required.

Lawlor sees a lot of advantages to visiting the indoor venue, especially with golf season in full swing.

“Our technology is newer. The accuracy is greater and we’re an ideal location for St. Albert golfers who don’t want to go into Edmonton,” Lawlor said.

Ted Dancin’s Indoor Golf is in the Perron District at 20 Sir Winston Churchill Ave.

Spring cleaning

Amanda White, owner of Beautiful Chaos Organizing, is by her own admission a very organized woman. With two boys under the age of four, it’s almost a job requirement.

A former mechanical engineer, White quickly realized her degree didn’t guarantee passion. Making the transition to de-cluttering residential homes was the perfect fit for her skills.

“I offer a de-cluttering service where I come in and help people downsize from 2,500 square feet to 1,200 square feet. I also organize for mothers who don’t have the time to make a home functional because they’re so busy with kids. It’s really about de-cluttering. During COVID we brought things in the house and now we’re discovering those things are suffocating us,” White said.

De-cluttering and organizing another individual’s home can challenging — both for the homeowner and organizer.

“I tend to be a minimalist, but I always ask questions. I don’t push people to minimalism, but I do ask hard questions. When they see how much lighter it feels when you get rid of things, they get on board.”

White also offers a staging service for homeowners looking to sell property. All in-home consultations are free.

Beautiful Chaos Organizing, a St. Albert home-based business, is accessible at 780-720-1741.

Mediterranean eats

Basha Donair & Shawarma, a popular fast-food eatery in Edmonton, launched its first location in St. Albert at Erin Ridge Plaza north of Costco.

Owner Gurinder Singh opened the Lebanese-Mediterranean franchise’s doors in February 2022.

“We have donairs, shawarma, platters, and chicken and rice. And it’s all enriched with Greek, Lebanese, and Mediterranean flavours,” said Singh.

“Basha has built a good reputation, a good brand. It is for a community who expects good quality and honours good quality food.”

Basha Donair & Shawarma is at 1115 St. Albert Trail, Unit 440.
