The 10th annual Country Alberta Music Awards are a wrap. And former St. Albert singer-songwriter Aaron Goodvin took home one of the most prestigious pieces of hardware.

Now living in Nashville drumming up success as a both a recording artist and published songwriter, Goodvin received the Male Artist of the Year trophy on Sunday, Feb. 28. This is his third Country Music Alberta Award.

In the past five years, he released two albums and six singles, and was nominated for eight Canadian Country Music Awards and Juno Awards. His 2020 release, Every Time You Take Your Time, reached No. 28 and continues to climb the Canadian Country Charts. His previous singles, Lonely Drum, reached platinum and You Are hit gold.

Alberta enjoys the strongest country music base in Canada, and organizers emphasized this by having emerging artists share the stage with established performers and superstars.

As George Canyon and Mariya Stokes hosted the live-streamed, interactive awards show, some of the most appreciated names in country delivered pandemic-friendly, pre-recorded performances. Leading the pack were Gord Bamford, Lyndsey Ell, Nice Horse and Ryan Lyndsay.
