Mosaic Entertainment is shooting a new feature film titled #Roxy and it is hosting a group call for extras, about 500 school-age students.

Scenes for a football game will be shot at Bellerose Composite High on Wednesday, July 13.

#Roxy is a teen rom-com, a modern retelling of the 19th century verse play Cyrano de Bergerac. It is a younger version of the 1987 romantic comedy Roxanne starring Steve Martin, as a firefighter with a huge nose in love with a beautiful newcomer.

The three main roles are carried by Disney's Lab Rat star Jake Short (Cyrus), Twilight and The Descendants star Booboo Stewart (Christian), and Degrassi star Sarah Fisher (Roxy).

In Mosaic's abridged version, Roxy is best friends with Cyrus, an intelligent, witty computer genius. But while he has a secret crush on her, she just views him as a pal.

Christian Newville, a new good-looking football player arrives at Bergerac High and Roxy is attracted to him. When Roxy asks Cyrus to help her connect with Chris, he is crushed, but uses his smarts and computer skills to bring the two together.

Cyrus soon lives vicariously as Christian, swaying Roxy's passion for classic literature and enchanting her with cyber age romance via text and social media.

Christian gradually morphs into a virtual dream boy and everything would be perfect except that in real life he doesn't exist.

“The cool part is the kids get to meet the stars and if we see someone doing something we like, we might extend the work. There's going to be lots of energy and fun,” said executive producer Jesse Lipscombe.

Lipscombe grew up in St. Albert along with Mosaic founder Camille Beaudoin. He will play the role of Coach Harris, an easy-going coach trying to earn his players' respect.

Michael Kennedy from Delmer & Marta directs this $750 thousand production.

“He has a great eye for finding shots, something a writer or producer may not have seen. He takes all the problems in and doesn't allow any to bleed in the crew. That in comedy is huge. He's easy to work with and an actor's dream director,” Lipscombe said.

For the group call extras are requested to bring two different outfits and can expect to work eight to 10 hours per day. Although extras will not be paid, a lunch is provided.

Actors need to register at [email protected]. Once confirmed, extras need to be on site at 8 a.m.
