Broadway Across Canada just announced the Rent 20th Anniversary Tour with a stop planned at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium from Sept. 3 to 8.
Close to 23 years after its premiere, the musical may not be quite as shocking as it once was, but it still has the power to tap into our emotional core with its beautiful music and compelling storyline.
Jonathan Larson based Rent loosely on Puccini’s opera La Bohème, but reimagines it in a contemporary context.
Although the production has been tweaked over the years, it sticks close to the original story of a group of young artists and wannabes in New York trying to hang on to their principles while mastering their craft.
Unfortunately they face major issues such as AIDS, poverty, homelessness, harassment, suicide and street drugs. But the one thing that keeps them going is love.
Tickets go on sale Monday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at 1-800-889-8457 or at ticketmaster.ca.
