LETTER: Drivers, remember your manners while navigating St. Albert Trail construction

'We all look forward to the end of construction season but in the meantime let’s be kind to each other.'

As an individual who drives St. Albert Trail while commuting to and from work, I would like to enunciate some behaviour patterns which would make traversing the construction zones a much better experience for all, while hopefully eliminating frustration and anger.

Firstly, zipper merging works and really isn’t that difficult of a concept; you allow one car to merge in front of you, and the driver behind you does likewise, and before you know it, we are all moving along nicely.

Secondly, turning signals do not operate by telepathy, and if you don’t use yours, myself and every other driver has no idea of your intentions, which means we cannot yield for you.

Thirdly, accelerating past a line of merging vehicles and then pulling in front of the lead vehicle is aggressive behaviour and does not endear you to your fellow drivers. We are all going somewhere, too, and our time is also important, so remember your manners.

We all look forward to the end of construction season but in the meantime let’s be kind to each other.

Roberta Babcock, Morinville
