LETTER: Flag sham a mockery of Canada

'This, from a federal government that still cannot provide clean drinking water to its Indigenous citizens and a prime minister that doesn’t even honour Sept. 30 — the Day of Truth and Reconciliation — that he instituted.'

Nov. 1 is the day I annually dawn a poppy to honour those who sacrificed to preserve our democracy from political totalitarianism and threats against humanity.

This year, I am concerned what those who have sacrificed would think of our federally mandated flags-at-half-mast policy.

In that vein, I noticed a letter in the National Post Oct. 30 expressing a view on the subject. The sentiments expressed implied our misguided prime minister and his administration have forced Canada into an action that was not well thought through and that is making a mockery of Canada internationally. This, from a federal government that still cannot provide clean drinking water to its Indigenous citizens and a prime minister that doesn’t even honour Sept. 30 — the Day of Truth and Reconciliation — that he instituted.

I therefore challenge my complacent fellow Canadians to speak out and put an end to this flag sham so that we may properly honour those who truly sacrificed on our behalf.
