LETTER: I vow to unseat any councillor who supports the MEC, solar farm

"The last thing we need is another near-incompetent public entity, with fully-indexed pensions, that competes against the private sector."

As a scientist who understands the laws of thermodynamics, and an industrial practitioner in the environmental-management field for more than 30 years, I give my full support to the knowledgeable authors of the advertisement in the Aug. 11 Gazette featuring the letter on the city's municipal energy corporation and the solar farm.

I also vow to do my civic duty and lobby to unseat, in the next election, any councillor who supports this public-sector business entity, and solar farm that council seems so enamoured with — a parting legacy for departing councillors, perhaps?

I’ve never been a single-issue voter before, but this one is too important to future St. Albert taxpayers.

The last thing we need is another near-incompetent public entity, with fully-indexed pensions, that competes against the private sector.

It’s Keynesian Economics 101: “Build it, and they will come.”

This strategy can work in a narrow range of circumstances when income streams are strong and capacity is lacking. But at this point there is no real cash. Both Alberta and the federal government are bankrupt.

It's likely that rising interest rates will turn another "great idea" into pure fools' folly.

As a 30-year resident of St. Albert, I’ve never seen a council as progressive and out-right deniers of math, science, and medicine, in spite of claiming the exact opposite.

Endless care-free spending in a time when Alberta and St. Albert are essentially bankrupt is irresponsible progressiveness.

And empirical evidence suggests council don’t listen to their boss, either — another library, really?

Bill Rugg, St. Albert
