Re: "Disc-golf course will destroy natural green space at Kingswood Park," Letters, The Gazette, Sept. 22.
I read with interest Jeff Bertram’s letter regarding disc golf and Kingswood Park. I have a different view to consider.
I have only played disc golf once and that was at Rundle Park. It was a fun and easy experience. I admit to having had bit of difficulty finding the course because it tended to blend into the surroundings.
I have visited Kingswood Park many times in both summer and winter. Generally, I find the park underused, with very few actual activities save skating and cross-country skiing in the winter. In the summer, well, a few picnic tables, dog walkers, and also walkers and joggers and bikes on the paved trail. I just don’t see how a disc-golf course would interfere with any of the activities because of all the free space.
I think Kingswood Park is an excellent location. Green space will stay green, parking exists, location is central, and the cost should be much less than the $100,000 capital cost budgeted with very little annual maintenance for the benefit provided.
