Re: "Losing her way to the top not a win for Heron," Letters, The Gazette, Oct. 27.

A win is a win. That said, the silent majority, or 65 per cent, of potential voters saw fit this time around to not vote, and that is disappointing. However, it's obvious if they had voted, the mayor and returning council would have received much higher support and a more convincing win.

Perhaps this 65 per cent chose to stay home, as they realized we have a great city, and the mayor and previous council, for the most part, did a fine job with their governance in what is a demanding and difficult job.

If things were going so poorly more folks would have come out to seek change.

Congratulations to the incumbents. Congratulations to the two new council members and to those who competed. Thanks to all of you. I am hopeful our new councillors will assist in making this new team even more effective.

And to The Gazette, please consider mentioning some of the positives (not only criticisms) this mayor and council will work to accomplish. Let’s start fresh and positive in these challenging times.

Congrats, Mayor Cathy Heron. I suspect these upcoming four years could be extremely challenging with government cutbacks and the ongoing COVID impacts and for that I am grateful we have an experienced leader.

Stay safe, one and all.

Marty Hunt, St. Albert
