LETTER: Questions raised require serious answers from city council

"Do we, as taxpayers, want to be on the hook for this project without fully knowing the potential risks and the long-term liability associated with it?"
letter-sta

We sincerely thank John Farlinger and Bruce McPherson for providing such a well-researched and cogent argument against the city's  current proposal to create a municipal energy corporation (The Gazette, Aug. 11).

The serious lack of due diligence and highly questionable financials relating to this project call for citizens to closely examine and question what city council is proposing. This project, if approved, will affect taxpayers for decades to come. Surely the many questions raised by Farlinger and McPherson, and many others with business and industry experience, including Frank Vagi, require serious answers from city council.

The timing of the second and third readings on Aug. 30 means vacationers may not be aware of the project, or the full impact of this seriously flawed proposal, before it is approved.

Do we, as taxpayers, want to be on the hook for this project without fully knowing the potential risks and the long-term liability associated with it?

It's time for answers and time for citizens to speak up.

David and Marilyn Wangler, St. Albert
