LETTER: Sohi, Heron made issue out of nothing with Cooper statement

'Cooper had nothing to do with the hateful flag painted by some radical at the rally. He does not need to apologize for being there.'

Mayors Amarjeet Sohi and Cathy Heron really overstepped their boundaries complaining about MP Michael Cooper attending the truckers rally. Cooper had nothing to do with the hateful flag painted by some radical at the rally. He does not need to apologize for being there. After all, this is still a free country, isn't it, though a lot of politicians would appear to like it if a lot of our freedoms were taken away, like a mayor who holds a vote on city spending and the voters say no and then she goes ahead and does it anyway. No apologies from her, and that is just one example of, "I can do what I want" regardless of what the majority want.

Time to get off your high horses, mayors, and stop trying to stir up what you think is an issue but really isn't. Remember, those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Thanks, Cooper, for attending the rally and supporting the Canadians who behaved in a civilized manner. There are always going to be radicals at protests. Ignore them. Do take notice, though, of hard-working people who protest peacefully for things they believe in. They have the right to do that.

J. Ritchie, St. Albert
