LETTER: Tax increases should not be on council's agenda

Prudent management of all revenues is more like it.

Re: "Council eyes tax hike to cover shortfall," The Gazette, June 16.

I think it's about time the mayor and council took a look in the mirror. A 20-year tax hike? Really?

This is followed by traffic-calming barriers, canceled fireworks, and numerous other issues on a social agenda.

St. Albertans should expect more and not have a council that constantly looks at how to align with public opinion rather than prudent management of all revenues.

Tax increases should not be on the agenda, nor should public officials try to position their tax increases as their only alternative.

A. Reich, St. Albert
