TORONTO — Shawn Mendes is doing triple duty on Friday as guest, musical performer and co-host of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

The Pickering, Ont.-born pop singer will step onto the late-night stage alongside Fallon to deliver the show's opening monologue before he sits down to discuss his upcoming tour.

Mendes will then join Fallon to interview Broadway actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson before he closes the show with a performance of his new single "When You're Gone." Fallon made the surprising reveal on his social media accounts with a video where he sang Mendes' new song.

Broadcaster NBC says it's the ninth time Mendes has appeared on the show and he joins a small group of other celebrities who've played co-host to Fallon, including Cardi B, Kevin Hart and Dave Grohl.

The Canadian pop singer's gig comes ahead of an appearance at this year's Juno Awards in Toronto where he'll receive an international achievement award for his global impact on music.

"The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" airs weeknights on NBC and CTV.
