St. Albertans will be treated to Chilean-inspired tunes along with folk music infused with rock and pop at the next instalment of the Arden Theatre's Plaza Series.

On Thursday, Aug.17, concert-goers will be treated to performances by Paula Neder and the Marco Claveria Trio.

Neder, a multi-award-winning artist, has been recognized for her exceptional achievements, including the “Uno Escenario” award for best musical production, and Album of the Year in 2016 from Argentinian newspaper La Nación. Neder will take to the Plaza Series stage to perform her memorable folk-infused pop-rock music.

Claveria is a Chilean-born, Edmonton-based musician who has been honoured with the World Music Award and was nominated for the Western Canadian Awards in 2015. His talented voice and captivating guitar playing shine through as he presents a blend of Chilean folk and Latin American music.

Both Neder and Claveria have not only won the hearts of their audiences through their skills but also through genuine connections with the communities they perform in, making their concerts all the more special. Neder’s nationwide tours have gained her a dedicated following, while Claveria has become a beloved figure who has left his mark throughout the vibrant Alberta music scene.

Ben Sures, a professional presenter and programmer at the City of St. Albert, recognizes Claveria’s significant local impact.

“He’s well-known to Edmontonians, he’s been a staple of the music scene (and) he’s played lots of concerts and festivals throughout Alberta," Sures said.

The Plaza Series has become an important event in St. Albert, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to listen to live music performances every Thursday in July and August. The series showcases some of the best local talents and touring artists, creating a rich atmosphere for music enthusiasts.

Having previously performed in St. Albert, Claveria likes to showcase his latest albums to new audiences.

“I write about anything I consider important, something that has an impact on me," Claveria said.

With a deep passion for connecting and entertaining audiences,  Claveria embraces the spotlight. Ahead of his performance in the outdoor series, he shared his excitement.

“We’ve had some good attendance for the shows," he said. "I think we’ve played so many times in St. Albert and we’ve done so many interviews for the Gazette that people in St. Albert are familiar with our music.”

As a bonus, Claveria said he will be releasing new material this fall that is a fusion of Celtic and Latin music.

The performances by Claveria and Neder promise to be an unforgettable experience, with beautiful live music under the open sky.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. outside the Arden Theatre. Tickets for the Plaza Series are on sale now and are $15 each for general admission, and a premium table for six is $150. Visit tickets.stalbert.ca.
