Tickets go on sale today for the two-day Rainmaker Music Festival, and this year’s stellar headliners are Dwight Yoakam and Buckcherry.

“We wanted to increase the Rainmaker profile and by bringing in bigger name acts, we’re increasing the footprint. We’re just trying to polish it up a bit,” says Troy Dezwart of Edmonton Event Centre, a long-term partner of St. Albert Kinsmen.

Traditionally held at the Kinsmen Banquet Centre on Riel Drive, the music festival busts wide open on May 28 and 29.

The Friday night country kick-off, an open-air saloon setting starts with Yoakam, a prolific singer who has sold more than 25 million albums and charted more than 30 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.

Opening for him is Calgary’s Joe Hikk, Edmonton’s Adam Gregory, Alberta born and bred Craig Moritz and the Vancouver based One More Girl.

The Saturday rock music concert scores big with Buckcherry, the Grammy-nominated, Los Angeles based band holding two crossover mega hits Crazy Bitch and Sorry. With four albums under their belt, they plan to release All Night Long this year.

Opening for them is the Kinsmen house band China White, St. Albert’s Social Code, Vancouver-based Jerry Doucette and The Trews from Toronto.

“These bands represent a significant investment and will take us to the next level. And we hope people will come in droves,” says Jim Oscroft, chair of the St. Albert Kinsmen Rainmaker Rodeo and Exhibition.

Regular standing-only tickets are $44.95. This year the Kinsmen have introduced VIP bleacher seating for $75.

Tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. from Ticketmaster at 780-451-8000 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
