St. Albert Singers Guild mounts 2023 Christmas concert

St. Albert Singers Guild will fill St. Albert United Church with a joyful noise this weekend presenting the Merry and Bright on a Snowy Winter’s Night concert.

“The first part pays homage to the winter and the snow and the solitude and the ability to start fresh. The second part is about all the joy and magic and togetherness, and all the wondrous opportunities Christmas brings,” said Caroline Crispin. She is the choir’s new director who took over from former artistic director Criselda Mierau.

Crispin, who started planning the concert in late July, weaves a cocktail of music from pop and a tribute to Mozart to English madrigals and traditional Christmas carols. But she credits the singers for giving vibrancy and meaning to the seasonal selections.

“Back then I started thinking Christmas is merry and bright, and it’s a time for new beginnings. And this is a new choir, and this is our homage to creating a new road – one that is long and winding. We are more than 75 singers, and we just love making music. We don’t know where it’s going to take us, but as long as we’re together it will be a great time,” Crispin added.

The two concerts take place Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at St. Albert United Church prior to concerts.
