Award-winning Chronos Vocal Ensemble celebrates 10 years of choral performances with a special free concert at Edmonton City Hall on Sunday, Jan.14.
Dubbed Chronos in the Hall, artistic director Jordan van Biert has programmed a mix of songs for a cappella voices. The repertoire includes two of St. Albert composer Trent Worthington’s compositions: And Einstein Said and Alberta Cowboy Songs.
“The first piece uses an array of musical styles to express famous quotes by Einstein. The latter is a lighthearted collection of fun songs related to Alberta’s homesteading and pioneer heritage,” said van Biert. He added Worthington will attend the concert as a special guest.
Both pieces are recorded in their entirety in Chronos’ 2016 album release, The Simplest Way, The Music of Trent Worthington.
The multi-cultural concert features 13 works, including Andrew Balfour's Omaa Bindig, Samih Choukeir's Lao Rahal Soti, Jocelyn Morlock's One Black Spade and Dolly Parton's Light of a Clear Blue Morning.
The one-hour concert is hosted by CKUA’s Orest Soltykevych, who recently named Chronos latest album Resolve, as his pick of the year.
“Expect a bit of the sublime, a bit of fun and plenty of great music.”
The concert starts at 3 p.m.
