Charities and non-profits have always faced an uphill battle when fundraising, but Reel Monday Movie Nights makes helping out a good cause easy and fun.
Once a month, the Friends of St. Albert Public Library screen a recent release at the Arden Theatre. On Monday, Nov. 6, the Friends will feature Alice, Darling, a haunting look at a woman trapped in an emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship.
Alice’s (Anna Kendrick) complicated partner relationship is draining her self-worth and confidence. She has even started to pull her hair out. Her boyfriend, Simon (Charlie Carrick), is a self-involved, insecure artist who appears quite charming, but also seethes with quiet menace. Although Simon only briefly appears in the film, his influence hangs over every scene.
During a night out on the town with two girlfriends, Alice’s twitchiness starts to fray their relationships. One friend proposes the three head out to a cabin in the woods to celebrate her birthday. Alice agrees, but lies to her boyfriend about the destination and who accompanies her.
Directed by Mary Nighy (daughter of Bill), the movie released in 2022 also stars Kaniehtiio Horn, Mark Winnick, Daniel Stolfi and Mairi Babb.
Alice, Darling is showing at the Arden Theatre on Monday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. Single tickets are $15. Advance tickets are available online at tickets.stalbert.ca or in person at the door. Income generated from this screening will be donated to St. Albert Public Library operational revenues.
