Getting that sponsorship deal is sometimes an elusive prospect. For many community organizations operating on shoestring budgets it might mean the difference between making it and breaking it.

That’s why the Kinsmen Club of St. Albert is inviting all such local groups to come to their new banquet facility in Riel Park on Tuesday. They are hosting a complimentary open session with a special talk put on by a well-known speaker.

Brent Barootes will present his talk Sponsorship Today: The Trends and Changes and How It Can Deliver Revenue For You When Done Right. He is the president and senior consultant with The Partnership Group in Calgary.

Jim Oscroft is a director with the Kinsmen. He said Barootes is donating his time and the Kinsmen are offering free use of their facility because of the potential benefit for various community groups in St. Albert.

“We’d like to hear the message that Brent can bring to the table,” he explained. “I suggested to him that it would be ideal if we could showcase our facility and give an opportunity for him to share his wonderful wisdom with some of the smaller non-profits.”

Normally his seminars take place over the course of a full day.

“It’s hard to make a commitment to that.”

This will be an abridged version of his regular program. The sponsorship specialist intends to take the 60- to 90-minute session to discuss what sponsorship is and what it isn’t. He will also address trends, why sponsors get involved, and how small- and medium-sized organizations can be effective.

The presentation is for local non-profit organizations, charitable causes, member associations, sports and arts groups to understand the best ways to obtain sponsors and why many traditional methods are not presently working in today’s world.

“We all recognize that sponsorship is a key element in non-profit fundraising. It has to be the right fit.”

Sponsorship Today takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19. It’s a free session but attendees must RSVP first. To sign up, please visit www.stalbertkinsmen.ca. For more information, call the club at 780-458-7433

The St. Albert Kinsmen Banquet Centre is located at 47 Riel Dr.
