St. Albert will be closing all its playgrounds tonight.

The city announced that starting at 8 p.m. on March 25, it is closing all playground structures on city land, including at schools and in open spaces, to decrease or eliminate the spread of COVID-19.

Temporary signs are being posted the evening of March 25 and more permanent signs will be in place later this week.

The city stated in a news release the closures come after careful consideration of factors such as Alberta Health Services’ information about the COVID-19 virus contaminating objects or surfaces for anywhere from hours up to several days after exposure.
