An autopsy has been scheduled for this morning in the death of a young man Thursday night in Morinville following an apparent fight just off 100th Avenue.

The RCMP responded to a report of a fight shortly after 11 p.m. in the area of 103 Street and the 9900 block. According to a new release, “a male was found on scene with a visible wound.”

The man, described as in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene despite treatment by ambulance personnel.

Staff Sgt. Mac Richards said the RCMP have several people in custody but would not say if any of those individuals were considered suspects.

“We have some people in custody but nothing to lay charges yet,” Richards said. “We have some people in custody and some people we are speaking to. It’s too preliminary to say if they are involved.

“The fact we have people in custody doesn’t mean they were the ones involved.”

The name of the dead man has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Richards said the autopsy would likely take place this morning, with preliminary results potentially available later this afternoon. Richards would not speculate on a cause of death.

“Not until the medical examiner comes out with his examination,” Richards said.
