Police seized several swords, a hockey mask, designs for a metal table and chair, a handcuff key and a pair of blood-stained jeans from Mark Twitchell's St. Albert home, the jury trying his first-degree murder case heard Thursday.

Const. Gary Short of the Edmonton Police Service crime scene investigation unit detailed a series of photo exhibits of the search officers made of several properties connected to Twitchell, including his home in Deer Ridge.

In response to questions from Crown prosecutor Lawrence Van Dyke, Short said they searched the St. Albert home on Oct. 22 and 23, 2008. They also searched Twitchell's car and the car belonging to his alleged victim Johnny Altinger.

Police found a blood stain in the trunk of Twitchell’s car and a roll of cloth tape inside the vehicle.

More forensic experts are expected to testify and provide more details on evidence this afternoon.

Altinger went missing in early October 2008. In his opening statement yesterday, Van Dyke outlined that Twitchell had developed a dark interest in killing someone and went about acting out his plan.

“Mark Twitchell formulated a plan, that plan was quite simply, to gain the experience of killing another human being,” Van Dyke told the jury.

Twitchell surprised the court yesterday by offering a guilty plea to a much lesser charge of improperly interfering with a dead person's remains. The Crown refused to accept this plea.

The case is expected to run between four to six weeks and has attracted national and international media attention.
