Since Target Canada closed its St. Albert location in April, the former retailer’s location at St. Albert Centre mall remains empty. Planning for the re-development of the space is still preliminary. But management at the mall has announced that they hope to expand on retail options “by adding a number of new, well known brands to the mix.”

Other shops have already been announced to move to the mall this year. Fashion boutique KIXS and Spencer Gifts store are now open, as are the renovated locations of Suzanne’s and St. Albert Kitchen. Construction is underway for Q-Nails, which will open later this summer. Urban Trail, a shoe store, will open in the fall. No date has been set for the opening of Cora Breakfast and Lunch later this year.

A new restaurant in the city promises to take serving fresh, organic food to the next level by partnering with their “very own farm.” 12 Acres, located in the former location of The River House (and owned by the same people), has partnered with City Life Farms to create a fully sustainable restaurant.

The restaurant opened on May 21 and started serving meat from the farm that day. The owners anticipate serving vegetables from the farm once they reach full sustainability in two years. Until then, they will source vegetables from other Alberta farmers.

12 Acres’ menu includes everything from freshly baked bread turned into sandwiches, homemade pasta, soups, and a variety of meat dishes including in-house cured meats, beef sausages and burgers with vegetable or potato sides. The restaurant is located at 8 Mission Ave. For more information visit 12acres.ca.
