A new restaurant will soon take the space of Trendy Home in downtown St. Albert.
The art and accessory store will be closing at the end of March but store owner Camille Boyd said she’s looking to re-open somewhere else in St. Albert in the fall.
She said she agreed to move out when a long-term restaurant tenant became available.
“That was what the landlord had envisioned when he built this building because there is a balcony upstairs, a seating area and he did the kitchen,” she said.
At this time it is not known what kind of restaurant will be moving to the location.
Trendy Home will be holding a closing sale from Saturday, March 1 until March 31. All items will be 50 per cent off. Trendy Home is located at 150 - 15 Perron St.
The St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 2014 Northwest Chamber Leaders Conference next week. The event will bring together chamber members and executives from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and northern parts of the United States.
This year’s theme is “Think Global, Act Local,” said chamber president and CEO Lynda Moffat.
“We’re trying to talk about global competitiveness and what you have to focus on at your local level for those types of business opportunities,” she said. “What do we need to do locally to assist our business communities.”
Last year was the first time the event was held in Alberta, she added. Chamber members will listen to presentations on topics covering everything from social media, to leadership and teambuilding. The conference also gives them time exchange stories from their districts and discuss common issues, she said.

A local real estate broker recently won the 2014 broker/manager leadership award for exceptional leadership and support to his associates.
James Mabey of Realty Executive Masters was chosen from about 200 brokers in the region. He received the award at last Friday’s Marketing Excellence and Leaderships Awards presentation hosted by the Realtors Association of Edmonton.
Mabey said he needed nominations from at least two other brokers and 10 per cent of his office staff to win the award. But he received nominations from four brokers and 21 staff members, which is half of his employees.
That’s a big achievement, considering that he only merged his former company, Sutton Realty, with St. Albert’s Realty Executives Masters a year and a half ago, he said.
“I had a lot of new associates who I had to get to know,” he said. “It was a big year full of change for our associates and for me, and to have exceeded their expectations makes me feel pretty good.”
